Canada: Setting a Record in Immigration Applications
Canadá: marcando récord en solicitudes de inmigración. Visados Empresas

Queries about moving to Canada are increasing more and more, either temporary workers or more permanent immigration issues. And it is that, in general, this country does not stop increasing the number of petitions and applications for permits and visas that it receives.

As of the end of November, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) had processed approximately 4.8 million applications, almost double the 2.5 million processedduring the same period of the previous year. That is why Canada is putting all its efforts into improving the digitization of its procedures and increasing the number of staff working in its offices. In 2022 it reached more than 431,000 new permanent residents, thus surpassing its record of 405,000 new permanent residents in 2021. IRCC expects a record number of new Canadian citizens in 2022-2023, with approximately 251,000 new citizens received as of April to November, surpassing the total number of new Canadian citizens for the last fiscal year. As a result, more than 70% of the applications in the citizenship inventory are now within service standards.

And it is that, the country encourages the use of immigration to address labor shortages by adopting immigration as a strategy to help companies find workers with the required skills in key sectors, including health care, skilled trades, manufacturing, transportation and technology, to manage social and economic challenges by implementing measures to help realize the full potential of the labor market of temporary and permanent newcomers to Canada, with measures, among many others, such as:

  • The extension of work permits to the spouses and working-age dependents of temporary foreign workers, at all skill levels.
  • Temporarily lift the 20-hour per week limit on the number of hours eligible post-secondary students can work off campus
  • Implement measures to allow foreign nationals whose post-graduation work permit expired or will expire between September 20, 2021 and December 31, 2022, the opportunity to work in Canada for an additional 18 months, either by extending their leave job or applying for a new one.
